The U of M women’s basketball team – much like the men’s team – suffered its first loss of the season at a Thanksgiving holiday tournament. The women had trouble scoring in a 58-46 loss to Richmond at the Cancun Classic. Minnesota’s defense was stout, forcing nearly two dozen turnovers, but that could not overcome the meager scoring total.
The box score shows the Gophers missed more than two-thirds of their shots, as Rachel Banham and Micaella Riche scored a majority of the points.
The Gophers will try to bounce back Friday, when they take on James Madison University.
Likewise, the men will look to recover from their first loss, an 89-71 setback to Duke at the Battle 4 Atlantis holiday tourney in the Bahamas.
