The Minnesota Lynx were on the wrong end of a buzzer beater on Tuesday night as Alysha Clark’s layup at the buzzer helped the Seattle Storm take Game 1 of the WNBA semifinal by a score of 88-86.
The Lynx were down Sylvia Fowles in the opener as she sat out with a calf injury. However, they were able to hang with the Storm throughout the first half even as they shot 50 percent (13-26) on three-pointers.
While the Storm took a nine-point lead going into the fourth quarter, the Lynx showed their resilliancy in the final frame. Napheesa Collier led Minnesota with 25 points and nine rebounds and Odyssey Sims made a layup that gave the Lynx a 80-79 lead with 2:37 remaining.
The Storm was led by a balanced effort that saw all five starters score in double figures. While the Lynx were resilient, the Storm were able to find the dagger, as Clark heaved up the game-winning shot as time expired to give Seattle a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Game 2 between the Storm and the Lynx will take place on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m.
