Samuel Deduno threw seven shutout innings and Justin Morneau and Brian Dozier went yard as the Minnesota Twins blanked the Seattle Mariners 4-0 Saturday at SafeCo Field.
Deduno (7-4) scattered three hits and three walks while striking out six. The 30-year-old right-hander picked up his third consecutive win and has allowed just three runs over 21 innings in his last three starts.
The Twins scored in the 4th inning when Celte Thomas knocked in Morneau with a single. In the 6th, Aaron Hicks drew a bases-loaded walk to score Chris Colabello.
In the top of the 7th inning, Brian Dozier (9) and Justin Morneau (8) each hit a solo dinger off Seattle reliever Yoervis Medina. Morneau also hit a double, going 2-4.
Morneau’s homer was his 212th as a Twin, passing Bob Allison on the Twins all-time leader list.
Anthony Swarzak, who pitched a scoreless 9th inning to end the game, leads all major league relievers with 62 2/3 innings pitched this season, according to the Sports Network
The Twins have taken two of three in the four-game series. Rubber match is Sunday afternoon.
