It’s gone from bad to worse for the injury-riddled Twins as the team placed Byron Buxton on the 60-day injured list, effectively ending his season.
Buxton is dealing with left shoulder subluxation, which is defined medically as a partial dislocation of the shoulder joint. He suffered the injury in Minnesota’s Aug. 1 game against the Miami Marlins.
The Star Tribune reported earlier this week that Buxton, who saw a shoulder specialist on Sunday, could undergo surgery on his shoulder as soon as this week.
In 87 games this season, Buxton slashed .262/.314/.513 with 30 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 46 RBI, 48 runs scored, 19 walks and an .827 OPS. He was well on his way to a breakout season before numerous injuries derailed his overall production.
With Buxton out, the Twins have activated pitcher Kyle Gibson from the injured list and called up utility infield Ronald Torreyes.
The Twins are also dealing with injuries to outfielders Max Kepler (chest), Marwin Gonzalez (oblique) and Jake Cave (groin). It’s unclear when Gonzalez or Cave will return, while Kepler is considered day-to-day.
