With the NHL trade deadline fast approaching, the Minnesota Wild could be close to a deal.
According to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, the Wild is “showing interest” in San Jose forward Ryane Clowe. Clowe would give the Wild more size and strength at the forward position.
Scoring hasn’t been an issue in Clowe’s past, but he has zero goals and 11 assists in 28 games this season. He scored 82 goals over the previous four seasons with the Sharks.
Minnesota general manager Chuck Fletcher declined to comment on anything specific, but tells Russo that he won’t “force” any trades.
Clowe has a no-trade clause in his contract. He says he’s “not going to sign” unless he sees potential in the team that wants him.
Whether Clowe might be traded to the Wild or another team is unclear, but tweets like this from TSN’s Bob McKenzie give a pretty solid hint that something is happening.
All indications are pointing towards Ryane Clowe not being in the San Jose lineup tonight.

The deadline to make trades is 2:00 p.m. CT Wednesday.
