Royce Lewis is moving on to bigger and better competition.
On Saturday, Lewis was promoted to the Cedar Rapids Kernals – which is the organization’s Single-A affiliate.
The promotion is warranted too as he slashed .271/.390/.413 in rookie ball this season. He also picked up 15 stolen bases while being disciplined at the plate, drawing 19 walks to just 17 strikeouts.
His defense at shortstop has also been solid having committed just four errors.
Lewis was the top pick in the MLB draft in June and so far he’s lived up to his potential, especially considering he’s just a few months removed from playing high school baseball.
At just 18-years-old Lewis is the first Twins prospect to play for a Singe-A team in a dozen seasons, according to Aaron Gleeman of Baseball Prospectus.
Typically, Single-A has players who are in the their early 20s, so the competition will be a bit steeper for the teenager.
