Royce Lewis slugged his 13th homer in 53 games and the Twins thumped the White Sox 10-2 Thursday night in Chicago. The win drops Minnesota’s magic number to clinch the AL Central to nine.
Eddy Julien scored the first run of the game with a 381-foot solo home run to right center in the fourth inning. Lewis then launched a first-pitch homer 426-feet to left center three batters later to double the Twins’ fourth inning lead.
Matt Wallner drove in two runs on a single to right to start a four-run seventh that was followed up two pitches later by Kyle Farmer’s 11th homer of the season.
The Twins piled on with four runs in the ninth inning, fueled by Jorge Polanco’s infield RBI single, Lewis walking with the bases loaded and Alex Kirilloff’s two-run single.
Kenta Maeda allowed just two runs in seven innings of work. He struck out eight Chicago batters. Josh Winder and Brent Headrick closed out the final two innings allowing just two hits combined.
