The starting left tackle job was supposed to be Christian Darrisaw’s after he was selected in the first round of the 2021 draft by the Vikings, but his starting chances appear to be waning with news that he’ll miss more time after undergoing a procedure for a core-muscle injury.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Darisaw “underwent a minor core-muscle procedure” Thursday with a specialist in Philadelphia. Pelissero says that it was “good news overall” and the Vikings hope the 23-year-old will be good to go for Week 1.
Specifically, the core-muscle of topic is a groin injury, according to reports.
Darrisaw has hardly seen the field at training camp as he’s dealt with injury issues. It’s given veteran Rashod Hill the majority of the first-team reps at left tackle, with Brian O’Neill manning the right end of the offensive line.
“We’re taking it one day at a time,” said offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. “He’s been working his tail off. We’ve been cautious with him, taking it slow. When he’s back we’ll take him, otherwise until then getting a lot of extra work for Rashod Hill.”
Kubiak didn’t sound too concerned about Darrisaw when he was asked how much time he’ll need to get ready to play Week 1.
“I wouldn’t put a number on it. Any player coming off an injury, they’re all different. When he’s been here he’s been really sharp and really dialed in, so mentally I don’t think it’ll be a problem. We just got to get his physical reps and get his conditioning,” said Kubiak.
