A candlelight vigil has been set for 8 p.m. Saturday evening outside of the Metrodome.
WCCO reports that the vigil will be held to honor Adrian Peterson’s 2-year-old son who died Friday after allegedly being abused by his mother’s boyfriend.
The event will be held at the corner of Fifth Street and Chicago Avenue.
Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, was arrested in the case. He is facing charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery of an infant, he could face additional charges as well.
The Argus Leader reports that there is a history of abuse with Patterson. He was also indicted in June 2012 on several counts of simple assault involving an ex-girlfriend and her 3-year old son. Later he was also charged for violating a no-contact order. Patterson was sentenced to one year in jail for both cases, but the time was suspended on the condition he attend domestic violence counseling.
Organizers are hoping the event will bring light to domestic abuse awareness.
