The Minnesota Twins are sending shortstop/third baseman Eduardo Escobar to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to multiple reports.
In exchange for Escobar the Twins are receiving right-handed pitcher Jhoan Duran, outfielder Ernie De La Trinidad and outfielder Gabriel Maciel, all three of whom were playing with Arizona’s Class A affiliate, according to MLB reporter Jeff Passan.
Escobar was in the Twins’ lineup prior to Friday’s game at Fenway Park against the Red Sox, and reporters were in manager Paul Molitor’s office when news of the trade flashed on the TV screen. Molitor said it was the first he’d heard of the deal.

Escobar, 29, is batting .274 with 15 home runs and 63 RBI, not to mention an MLB-leading 37 doubles. He’s in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent at the end of the season.
Filling Escobar’s spot on the roster is Miguel Sano, who has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester, according to reports.
