The Minnesota Timberwolves are actively trying to trade small forward Corey Brewer, ESPN’s Marc Stein reports.
Teams seeking a possible trade for Brewer are said to be contenders, with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets being the “most serious” contenders. Brewer is still close with former Wolves teammate Kevin Love, who was traded to the Cavaliers in the offseason. The Wolves are looking to obtain a second-round draft pick for Brewer, according to Canis Hoopus.
Houston coach Kevin McHale drafted Brewer in 2007 when he was the Timberwolves general manager. Stein says McHale has had interested in acquiring Brewer since Brewer lit up the Rockets for 51 points in a game last season.
If Brewer is traded, the Pioneer Press notes that it could create more playing time for second-year swingman Shabazz Muhammad and Chase Budinger, who has spent the majority of the season thus far on the bench.
Brewer will make $4.7 million this season and he has a player option for $4.9 million next season. Waiving that option is a key to any deal commencing, according to USA Today NBA reporter Jeff Zillgitt.

The Clippers are also interested, according to CBS Sports, but they likely don’t have the assets to swing a deal.
