With the Vikings looking to improve on offense next season, they’ve added former Purdue University head coach Darrell Hazell to be the team’s wide receivers coach.
Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur joined KFAN radio on Friday and said they’ve settled and were really thrilled to have Hazell on the staff.
The team has yet to formally announce the move but ESPN’s Ben Goessling also reported the hiring.
This is his first job in the NFL after spending 31 years as a college coach. Hazell was fired by Purdue in October after four seasons. He was the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year at Kent State in 2012.
He also spent time under Jim Tressel at Ohio State as the Buckeyes wide receivers coach for five seasons.
Shurmur took over as the Vikings offensive coordinator for the final nine games last season after Norv Turner resigned.
Under Shurmur, the offense improved in multiple areas but still finished just 23rd in the NFL last season averaging 20.4 points per game.
