Trevor May will make his first major league start Saturday against the Oakland Athletics.
May has pitched the entire 2014 season for the Twins AAA affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings. Over 95.1 innings pitched, May has a 2.93 ERA, has given up 75 hits and struck out 91 batters. May is currently the Twins eighth best prospect, according to Baseball America.
May was acquired by the Twins from the Phillies in December 2012. Minnesota sent Ben Revere to the Phillies for May and former Twins starter Vance Worley, who just so happens to be dominating for the Pirates just months after he was dumped by GM Terry Ryan.
The Twins have yet to officially announce the starter for Saturday’s game, but Darren Wolfson of KSTP said he would be shocked if it wasn’t May.

May was supposed to represent the Twins at the Futures Game at Target Field last month, but was replaced by Alex Meyer, another Twins pitching prospect.
One area of major improvement for May in his two years with the Twins organization is the amount of walks allowed. May has surrendered a half walk less this year per nine innings as compared to last year, according to baseball-reference.com.
May will have his work cut out for him on Saturday. He will face an Oakland Athletics offense that leads major league baseball in runs scored, and will go against A’s starter Jeff Samardzija. The A’s starter pitched the first half of the season for the Cubs and was named to the National League All-Star team before being traded to the A’s on July 5.
The 24-year-old is among a group of prospects the Twins hope will bring the team back to its winning ways. May and Kennys Vargas are the first of this group to be called up to the major league squad.
Fans have yet to see the heart of this group, which includes Meyer, Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario, J.O. Berrios and Kohl Stewart.
