It has been nearly a year since Antoine Winfield stepped onto a NFL field, but the Seattle Seahawks are reportedly trying to lure the three-time Pro Bowl cornerback out of retirement to help them push towards the playoffs.
Winfield signed with Seattle this offseason after spending nine years in Minnesota, but was one of the final cuts by the Seahawks as they trimmed their roster to the league maximum 53 players.
Since, rumors have been floated that Winfield may return to Minnesota, Seattle, or choose a new destination.
The Seahawks apparently think now is the time, as they grow continuously thin at CB with Brandon Browner recovering from an injury and Walter Thurmond about to serve a four-game suspension.
FOX Sports Mike Garafolo had the report first, saying the Seahawks have contacted Winfield, a seemingly natural move considering the time he spent there and pipeline the Vikings have to Seattle, including former Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said today that bringing in Winfield is a “possibility.”
