The MLB trade deadline is fast approaching and the Twins, despite three straight wins, are still 10 1/2 games out of first place in the Central division.
With that, rumors are expected to be centered around possible trade targets on the roster, and the latest involved veteran closer Fernando Rodney. According to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, the Boston Red Sox are interested in Rodney, at least to the degree that the right-hander is “worth a look” for them.
The #RedSox are cutting a wide swath in search of bullpen depth. One name on their list: Fernando Rodney, who is familiar to GM Dave Dombrowski from their time together with #Tigers. Rodney, 41, has 18 saves and a 2.97 ERA for #Twins this season. File it under "worth a look.''

As noted by MLB Trade Rumors, the Red Sox probably don’t have to give up a lot to get Rodney simply because of his age and the fact that his contract is only guaranteed through the end of the season.
Rodney has been shaky this season with five blown saves, but overall he has a respectable 3.17 ERA and 19 saves.
In Boston, Rodney would likely serve as a late-inning reliever because Craig Kimbrel is cemented in as the closer.
