If Christian Ponder has his way, he’ll be leading the Vikings against the Steelers at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Ponder intends to play through his rib injury and start the game. As our G.R. Anderson wrote earlier Thursday, the Vikings plan on waiting to name a starting quarterback until Friday.
Ponder split reps with backup Matt Cassel on Thursday.
ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio says “this is a prime opportunity to give Matt Cassel a test drive.”
Regardless, at this point it seems like the media and Vikings alike are babying Ponder a little bit and trying not to damage his ego. If he doesn’t start, it will be because of an injury… not because of performance.
