Justin Morneau’s tenure with the Twins could be coming to an end any day now.
The MLB non-waiver trade deadline strikes at 3:00 p.m. CT Wednesday, and rumors about Morneau have been circulating for weeks now.
The latest comes from the Baltimore Sun.
One of the Orioles top scouts has been in Seattle this week watching the Mariners and the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota’s former MVP Justin Morneau is on the trade block, and so may be several Mariners’ hitters including Raul Ibanez and Kendrys Morales.
Per the report, the Orioles have contacted the Twins about Morneau.
Yahoo! Sports says the Pittsburgh Pirates could be a suitor for Morneau.
According to the Pioneer Press, scouts from at least eight teams were in Seattle to watch Morneau in action, including the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays.
One quote, however, speaks loudly as to what the Twins might get in exchange for Morneau: “He’s not an everyday player anymore,” said a scout from an A.L. contender. “He’s a shell of his former self.”
