For the past few years, Major League Baseball has been looking for new ways to speed up the game.
Two years ago, MLB mandated that all batters must keep at least one foot in the batter’s box. Another one was a timer for pitching changes and pitching motions.
Now it appears baseball has another change forthcoming for the intentional walk. According to ESPN’s Howard Bryant, the league has approved a rule allowing for a dugout signal for an intentional walk.
Which means pitchers will no longer have to throw four intentional pitches to home plate.
According to NBC Sports, there were 932 intentional walks issued last season.
