Able to pick and choose his next destination as a free agent, right-hander Kyle Gibson is has agreed to terms with the Texas Rangers, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
The deal with over three years and worth a reported $30 million.
Gibson, 32, was picked the by Twins 22nd overall in the 2009 MLB Draft. He’s pitched all seven years of his career with Minnesota, going 67-68 with a 4.52 ERA. He struggled last season after losing weight due to an E.coli-related illness which he believes he contracted while doing charity work last winter in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
In 2018, Gibson posted a career-best 3.62 ERA in 196.2 innings, only to suffer through ailments in 2019, posting a 4.84 ERA in 160 innings.
With Gibson headed elsewhere, the Twins still have three spots in the starting rotation to fill behind Jose Berrios and Jake Odorizzi, who recently accepted a one-year, $17.8 million qualifying offer.
