Former Vikings first-round pick Michael Bennett was sentenced to five years in a California prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty last March to felonies of burglary, identity theft and attempted theft of an elder adult.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the former Vikings tailback was arrested in 2015 after the parents of his then-girlfriend discovered a loan had been taken out against their home. Bennett was stealing personal information from her parents and obtained a loan of more than $200,000.
This isn’t the first time Bennett has been in trouble with the law either. In 2012 he was sentenced to 15 months in prison for taking part in a fraud scheme.
Drafted by the Vikings in 2001, Bennett played five years in Minnesota, rushing for over 3,000 yards. His best season came in 2002 when he was named to the Pro Bowl after rushing for 1,296 yards and five touchdowns.
After leaving the Vikings, Bennett played for Kansas City, San Diego, Tampa Bay and Oakland.
