It’ll be interesting to see what the Minnesota Wild do in free agency this summer.
Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports the Wild will have approximately $6.2 million to spend. The number could be $7.5 million more if they’re able to buy out Dany Heatley’s contract.
Unfortunately, Heatley is currently an “injured player,” and the window to buy out players opens 48 hours after the Staney Cup Final and closes July 5. Heatley is unlikely to be cleared medically before then, so buying him won’t happen, according to Russo.
Pro Hockey Talk reports the Wild could create extra cap space by trading or buying out Tom Gilbert, or by trading Devin Setoguchi, Zenon Konopka, Kyle Brodziak and/or Cal Clutterbuck.
