Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson underwent successful surgery on his groin Thursday morning. go under the knife Thursday to repair a groin injury that nagged him throughout the 2013 NFL season.
The Vikings released a statement on behalf of Peterson, notifying the public that his operation went well. He’ll be sidelined six weeks before resuming football activities.
Adrian Peterson had surgery today with Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Meyers was able to successfully repair Adrian’s adductor muscle while also doing a compartmental release. Adrian is expected to make a full recovery in approximately 6 weeks.
ESPN’s Josina Anderson was the first to report that Peterson was going under the knife.

This is the third consecutive year Peterson has needed surgery. He underwent major knee surgery after tearing his ACL in December of 2011, then he underwent sports hernia surgery last offseason. The same doctor that performed the hernia operation recommended Peterson undergo surgery to repair his groin injury.
According to FOX Sports, Peterson injured his groin Nov. 17 in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He missed the final two weeks of the season after adding a sprained ankle to his injury report.
