Adrian Peterson is not going to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii for the fresh pineapple. The standout Viking running back is going because he wants to win.
And for the $50,000 prize money he will earn if his team comes out on top.
“We get 50 more racks so we can give it to our mom, our dad, our family, or go buy a car,” Peterson told the Associated Press. “There’s a lot you can do with 50.”
Meanwhile, Vikings alternate Matt Kalil will play in Sunday’s game after Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams scratched. Williams needed seven stitches after being hit in the head with a champagne bottle and being Tasered at a Honolulu nightclub. Yahoo!Sports reports police are investigating, but Williams is considered a victim, not a suspect.
Viking Punter Chris Kluwe is spending his own money to attend the Pro Bowl. He told the Associated Press he wants to hang out at the pool with his wife, soak up some sun and make fun of his teammates who have to work.
In all, seven Vikings players were recognized as Pro Bowl players. In addition to Peterson and Kalil, Vikings fullback Jerome Felton, defensive end Jared Allen and kicker Blair Walsh were named to the Pro Bowl. Tight end Kyle Rudolph was an injury replacement pick. Offensive lineman John Sullivan and linebacker Chad Greenway were named as alternates.
