It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure part of the reason the Twins are so bad.
Ron Gardenhire summed it up by bluntly saying, “We need pitching.”
Brandon Warne has a list of potential free agent pitching targets for the Twins.
Do the names Phil Hughes, Chris Capuano, Bronson Arroyo, Scott Feldman, Josh Johnson, Jason Hammel, Roberto Hernandez, Paul Maholm, and Jason Vargas do anything for you?
The average baseball fan literally might not know who any of those guys are.
Two names left off the list are Tim Lincecum of the Giants and Matt Garza of the Rangers. Garza is pitching well while Lincecum has been incredibly inconsistent.
What about help from within? Top pitching prospects Alex Meyer and Trevor May just aren’t ready, according to manager Ron Gardenhire.
“Are those guys ready? If they were ready, they would have come up here,” Gardenhire told FOX Sports North. “We have candidates. Lots of candidates. But are they the guys that are going to be able to turn you around? Are they ready to do that? I don’t think so. They can fill some spots, but everybody’s looking for pitching, and we’re no different than any other organization. We need pitching.”
