Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and quarterback Christian Ponder agree that the offense should be a lot better in 2013.
Minnesota finished the 2012 season 20th in total offense and 14th in points per game (23.7).
Ponder’s optimism has to do with the addition of wide receivers Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson, along with improved health and confidence for tight ends John Carlson and Kyle Rudolph.
“We have a lot of weapons,” Ponder said to the Pioneer Press. “We have Kyle Rudolph and his continued emergence, and John Carlson has come along — he’s healthy. And Jarius Wright, he’s looks great, too. We’ve just got a ton of guys. It takes a lot of hard work to be good, and we’re working hard now. There’s no excuse for what we want to do.”
It also doesn’t hurt that they have the NFL MVP (Adrian Peterson) in the backfield.
The Star Tribune reports that Ponder is working hard to improve his “decision making,” which was subpar at times in 2012.
Musgrave tells the Pioneer Press that “fewer unknowns at this stage” of the offseason compared to his first two years with the Vikings should lead to a more productive offense.
