Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder has completed the sale of his Tonka Bay home, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
The five-bedroom, eight-bathroom home sold to an unidentified Edina couple for $1.062 million, just a shade under the asking price of $1.095 million. Ponder bought the brick and stone house in July 2012 for $880,000 from Xcel Energy CEO Ben Fowke, according to the Star Tribune.
Ponder and his wife, Samantha Steele, are not living in the home. The couple moved out last June.
Ponder, who started nine games in 2013, has one year left on his four-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings. He may be traded if the team drafts a new quarterback.
Just last summer, the newlyweds were profiled in the home by Midwest Home.
Steele, a reporter for ESPN, told the magazine she had lived six places in seven years, and was looking forward to settling in. She did most of the decorating, with an emphasis on found objects and bright colors.
“This was the first time I felt like I really lived somewhere,” Steele said.
The couple said they wanted a lot of space so friends and family would feel comfortable spending time there.
When reports surfaced last fall that the home was for sale, Steele quickly took to Twitter to tamp down rumors that Ponder was about to be traded. This time, her Twitter feed has been quiet for several weeks. Vox Media’s SBNation.com is among those speculating anew that Ponder will not be a Viking much longer.
