A 10-6 record in 2012 was a promising sign for the Vikings, but head coach Leslie Frazier doesn’t want his team looking at last season to provide hope for this season.
“I’m sure over this offseason, they’ve had a lot of people telling them, ‘Hey, you guys are on your way. You’re moving in the right direction,’ ” Frazier explained to the Pioneer Press as the team arrived in Mankato for training camp. “All that’s good, but you can’t forget how, in our league, it changes from year to year. You can’t ever look back at a season ago and say, ‘Based on that, we’re going to be a playoff team and we’re going to win a championship.’ “
Quarterback Christian Ponder told reporters that he’s building off of his 2012 season, which was filled with ups and downs. He says he will “limit the mistakes” this year, and get better from the mistakes he made last season.
Expect Ponder to work a lot with wide receiver Greg Jennings on their timing during camp.
Part of the championship recipe involves a healthy center, and John Sullivan has come a long way since undergoing knee surgery six months ago.
Until Thursday, no one knew for certain if Sullivan would be ready for the regular season, but Frazier said Sullivan will be playing during the preseason.
