A day after a rainout wiped out his two-run homer on Friday, Jorge Polanco got it back in Minnesota’s 2-0 victory over the Indians in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader in Cleveland.
Polanco’s two-run blast came in the third inning against Indians starter Mike Clevinger, who scattered six hits and one walk while striking out eight over seven strong innings.
With the win, the Twins now lead the AL Central by 4.5 games with a chance to turn it into a 5.5-game lead if they sweep the doubleheader.
The Twins got a great performance from a bevy of arms, with Devin Smeltzer firing three shutout innings, followed by Zack Littell, Tyler Duffey, Sergio Romo, and Taylor Rogers finishing the game.
Game 2 of the double dip starts at 6:10 p.m.
