Trevor Plouffe has found his way back to the diamond slightly quicker than Justin Morneau did three years ago.
The Twins third baseman, who was kneed in the back of the head on a slide in to second by Atlanta Braves second baseman Dan Uggla just one week ago, has been reinstated from the seven day disabled list.
Plouffe was slated to make the start at third but was a late scratch due to left calf tightness. Eduardo Escobar took Plouffe’s place at third and led off, singling in the bottom of the first.
To make room for Plouffe, the recent AAA call up Chris Colabello has been optioned right back where he came from after appearing in just five games, going 1-11.
Unfortunately for Colabello, he will probably be remembered more for his wardrobe gaffe than his play on the field.
Plouffe seemed to be finding his stride before being sidelined due to the head injury, riding an eight game hitting streak at the time of his departure.
Plouffe will immediately return to his third base duties, according to Brian Murphy of the Pioneer Press.
