Being a smarty pants doesn’t always pay off, and this is one of those times. According to Ryan James of Gopher Illustrated, Anas Osama Mahmoud, the 69th-rated recruit in the nation for the class of 2014 according to ESPN, will visit Minnesota in the middle of February.
7-foot-1 Egyptian big man Anas Osama Mahmoud said this evening to GI that he plans to visit Minnesota the 3rd week in February.

James has Mahmoud at 7’1″ but his player page says 7’2″ and an almost unhealthily slender 190 lbs.
While he will give the Gophers a look, they are not considered the favorite to land his services, as Louisville and nine other schools, Minnesota included, have given him offers.
Still, with just five official visits allowed per athlete under NCAA rules, it has to be considered a glimmer of hope to land a top-100 guy, since Minnesota missed out on the three in-state recruits that fit that bill this year.
