Adrian Peterson vowed Monday to focus his attention on “protecting the football” this offseason so he can come back a better player next season.

Vikings kicker Blair Walsh might be having a much more enjoyable Monday had Peterson not let Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor rip the ball from his hands in the fourth quarter, putting the ‘Hawks in position to kick a field goal for a 10-9 lead.
Instead, Peterson coughed up the football for the 8th time this season and lost it for a 4th time. No running back fumbled the ball more than Peterson this season.

“That’s going to be my No. 1 objective this offseason,” said Peterson when asked what his goals are, via the Star Tribune. “You take things for granted. I’ve joked around and said, ‘Yeah, I’ve put the ball on the turf.’ But how many have I lost? Guys have lost more fumbles than me this year, but when it comes back and it bites you in this type of way, it’s something that I’ll put an emphasis on for this offseason.”
Peterson added that he hopes to become a better receiver and route runner so he can stay on the field in passing situations – a role that second-year running back Jerick McKinnon filled admirably.
