Twins starter Mike Pelfrey (1-0) takes his second turn in the rotation tonight as Minnesota meets Kansas City in the second game of their three-game set at Kauffman Stadium.
Pelfrey’s first outing was a solid success last week. He pitched into the sixth inning against the Tigers at Target Field, giving up five hits and two unearned runs in a 8-2 Twins win.
It was also Pelfrey’s first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery last May. He told the Associated Press that the win was his reward “for busting my butt.”
“If I was a crier — I probably would have cried,” he added.
Pelfrey, a native of Wichita, Kan., will have a group of about 20 people making the three-hour drive to see him pitch, according to MLB.com.
Jeremy Guthrie (1-0) takes the mound for the Royals tonight. He won his debut start on the road against the White Sox, giving up one run and striking out nine in a 3-1 Royals win.
