Washington Capitals 4
Minnesota Wild 3
The Minnesota Wild lost their seventh straight game Thursday night, falling to the Washington Capitals 4-3 at the Xcel Energy Center.
1. Ovechkin hat trick
No one has scored more goals this season than Alex Ovechkin. He took over the NHL lead on Thursday night with a hat trick against the Wild.
His third and final goal of the night used both the post and Devan Dubnyk’s back.

Ovechkin now has 34 goals on the season.
2. Losing streak reaches seven
The Wild have now lost seven straight games, and are on a skid that has seen them lose 12 out of 13. They also haven’t won a game at the Xcel Energy Center in 45 days.
The losing streak is even worse for Dubnyk, who has now lost nine straight starts in net.

3. Second period woes
Since the All-Star break the Wild have especially struggled in the second period of games. That was the case again on Thursday night as Washington scored three of their four goals during that second period.
