The night began when Ramon Laureano hit a solo home run in the third inning to put Oakland on the board. The Athletics extended their lead in the fifth inning when Sean Murphy hit a two-run homer to increase the lead to 3-0.
Twins starter Matt Shoemaker was chased in the sixth inning after allowing another two-run home run to Stephen Piscotty but the Twins showed life in the bottom of the sixth when Josh Donaldson hit his fourth home run of the season.

The Twins mounted a rally in the seventh but with two men on, Miguel Sanó struck out in a pinch-hitting appearance and Luis Arraez lined out to end the inning.
With the Twins bats silent, the A’s added their fourth home run of the night on a solo home run from Mark Canha to make up the final score.
The Twins (12-24) will play the second game of their series with the Athletics on Saturday afternoon.
