The Minnesota Twins saw their value increase by $290 million last year, even after finishing the season 70-92.
Now valued at $895 million, Forbes places the Twins at No. 18 out of the 30 MLB teams.
According to the Business Journal, the one-spot jump from last year is due to increasing TV revenue.
Forbes puts the total MLB worth at $36 billion. The team average is $1.2 billion, which is a record.
The top 15 teams on the list are worth $1 billion or more.
The Yankees are the leaders with a whopping $3.2 billion, and bottom spot is held by the Tampa Bay Rays at $625 million.
Sizing up Minnesota franchises
So how do the Twins compare to other Minnesota pro teams? Well, they boast the second highest valuation for Minnesota.
The most expensive franchise goes to the Minnesota Vikings. They came in at No. 20 in the NFL for 2014, according to Forbes, with a team value of $1.15 billion. The revenue in 2013 totaled $250 million with operating income at $5 million.
The Timberwolves have the second-lowest franchise value in the NBA, but they still rank higher than the Wild. Forbes says the Wolves are worth $625 million, with $128 million in revenue and $6.9 million in operating income.
As for the Wild? Well, Forbes has them as the least-valuable franchise in the state – but they’re actually the highest-ranked of all the Minnesota teams in their league. They come in at No. 17 in the NHL, Forbes says, with a $370 million valuation. The revenue last season was $111 million, while operating income was -$5.4 million.
The list is missing one dominant Minnesota franchise: the Minnesota Lynx. Forbes doesn’t put out WNBA values like it does for the major male leagues.
