The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft has been awarded to the New York Rangers, who got the lucky bounce in the ping-pong ball selection in Monday’s NHL Draft Lottery.
Minnesota has a 12.5% chance to land the top pick after being eliminated in the NHL playoffs qualifying series against the Vancouver Canucks. Since the Wild didn’t get lucky, they slide all the way down to the No. 9 overall pick in the October draft.
Barring trading down in what’s considered a deep draft, this will be the ninth top-10 selection in Wild history, and the first since the Wild took Matt Dumba seventh overall in 2012.
