The Vikings were ranked No. 30 in almost every power rankings list offered up by different media outlets last week, and this week remains the same, despite a blowout loss at home to the Green Bay Packers.
Thank the winless Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for that.
ESPN: No. 30 — The Vikings and Falcons are the only teams that have allowed at least 23 points in every game this season.
PROFOOTBALLTALK: No. 30 — The only way the Vikings would have kept Sunday night’s game close is if Cordarelle Patterson would have returned every Green Bay kickoff for a touchdown.
CBS SPORTS: No. 30 — This is a bad football team all the way around. One has to wonder if Leslie Frazier is in trouble.
YAHOO! SPORTS: No. 30 — You have to be really confident about your ability to re-sign pending free agent Jared Allen, or you’re making a huge mistake if you don’t trade him.
USA TODAY: No. 30 — At least an infectious disease hasn’t hit the team not including ineptitude on offense and defense.
NFL.COM: No. 30 — What with all the talk about quarterbacks in Minnesota, it’s hard to believe the team put up 31 points against the Packers on Sunday. Christian Ponder fared OK; he even scored a touchdown in garbage time with his legs. When you think about it, it’s not Ponder’s fault the defense got its butt kicked. Cordarrelle Patterson, meanwhile, is an offense by himself. Dude, returning five kicks for 228 yards is impressive. But back to the defense. On third and fourth downs, Minnesota allowed Green Bay to convert 15 of 20 times. That’s one of the worst statistical lines we’ve ever seen.
FOX SPORTS: No. 30 — There were times on Sunday night when Christian Ponder dropped back with excellent footwork, stood tall in the pocket and stepped into his throw like a capable starting QB in this league, but why can’t he do that more consistently?
