Officials shepherding the project to bring a new Minnesota Vikings stadium to downtown Minneapolis say groundbreaking is scheduled for October 2013.
The date was announced by Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority chairwoman Michele Kelm-Helgen, the Star Tribune reports.
The first schematic design of the facility is expected by early March and the team plans to open the 2016 NFL season in its new home, the newspaper says.
Meanwhile, the authority is issuing requests for proposal for a construction management firm for the $1 billion stadium, to be constructed on the site of the Metrodome, MPR says. The authority aims to name a finalist by Jan. 25.
In other stadium news this week, electronic pull-tab revenue that was to help pay the state’s share of stadium costs is coming in slower than expected, but Gov. Mark Dayton is saying he is not overly concerned.
