The Twins announced Friday that power hitter Nelson Cruz has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left wrist.
Cruz left Thursday’s game against the Indians during his second at-bat, when he grimaced in pain after swinging and missing at a pitch from Cleveland’s Mike Clevinger. The Twins immediately took him out of the game and announced that he was day-to-day pending further tests.
It’s the same wrist injury that sidelined Cruz for 15 games in May.
For the Twins, it’s a massive loss in the heart of the batting order. Cruz leads the majors with 16 home runs since the All-Star break, including a mind-boggling 13 in his last 15 games. He leads the Twins with 32 homers this season.
Right-handed reliever Cody Stashak has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester to fill Cruz’s spot on the roster.
