The prognosis is in for the injured left thumb of top Twins prospect Byron Buxton, and it’s not what Minnesota fans were hoping to hear.
Twins manager Paul Molitor said before Friday night’s game that Buxton, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier in the day, is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks because of the injury.
Molitor said Byron Buxton could be out four to six weeks.

Buxton suffered the injury while attempting to steal a base against Chicago on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old center fielder played through the injury in Wednesday’s game, but struck out in all four of his at-bats.
Buxton had struggled at the plate since he was called up from Double-A Chattanooga. In 11 games with the Twins, Buxton is hitting just .189 with five runs, a double, a triple and a stolen base.
He was able to show off the blazing speed, solid defense and strong arm that scouts have been raving about.
The Associated Press notes that injuries have plagued Buxton for the last year. He sprained his left wrist in spring training last year. After that healed, he suffered a concussion in a scary collision at Double-A New Britain.
Minnesota recalled shortstop Danny Santana to take Buxton’s spot on the roster. Santana started the season in the majors but got off to a slow start both offensively and defensively with the Twins.
He bounced back when he was sent down to Triple-A Rochester, though.
