It’s been 25 games now without Miguel Sano, and it’s possible that he doesn’t play again this season.
Sano’s shin injury, defined by the Twins as a stress reaction, isn’t progressing the way he’d hoped. He was too sore to rehab on Thursday after he ran and took batting practice on Wednesday.
The problem is that his leg swells up and hurts after rehab.
“We’re working to get back on the field, but it obviously still bothers me and still hurts,” Sano said Thursday, via the Twins’ website. “When I hit it’s not as much, it’s more of the running. But once I’m done hitting and relax a little bit, it swells up and hurts.”
The Star Tribune noted that Sano’s leg was wrapped and he was wearing a walking boot when he spoke to media on Thursday.
“Obviously, it’s frustrating,” Sano added. “I was on the field every day, but now I’m hurt and the team is winning and having fun. I want to be part of that, so it’s frustrating. We’re still working with the trainer to get back as soon as possible. But we don’t know at what point right now.”
Sano has two and a half weeks to get right before the season is either over, or the Twins are in the playoffs.
