The Minnesota Twins are heading back to the playoffs after clinching their spot in the field with an 8-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.
Minnesota took an early lead when Eddie Rosario hit his 12th home run of the season in the first inning, but the Cubs quickly tied it up in the third on a David Bote RBI double.
The game settled down as starters Michael Pineda and Alec Mills dueled to keep the game tied. In the top of the sixth, Rosario broke the tie with an RBI single before Miguel Sano shifted the momentum with a home run onto Waveland Avenue to double the Twins’ lead.

Sano’s blast energized the Twins’ lineup as they went on to score five runs in the seventh inning. Josh Donaldson added a solo home run to pile on in the ninth and the Twins clinched playoff spots in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2009-10.
With the win, the Twins stayed three games back of the Chicago White Sox, who shut out the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday by a score of 5-0. Minnesota is currently locked into the fourth seed in the American League as they’ll look to win the series on Sunday night with Jose Berrios opposing Yu Darvish.
