Out since Aug. 19 with a stress reaction in his left shin, the Twins might have to wait a little bit longer than they thought to get Miguel Sano back in the lineup.
The Twins announced Thursday that Sano had a slight setback when he felt soreness in his leg when he tried to run on Wednesday. The plan was to have Sano take live batting practice, but because of the soreness he was relegated to taking batting practice off a tee.
“We ended up limiting him to do just hitting off the tee again today,” manager Paul Molitor said Thursday. “We’ll see if we can get him back on the field tomorrow.”
There is no timetable for his return, but Friday is another big test day for Sano as he rehabs his way back from injury.
It’s too bad Sano isn’t in the lineup against the Royals this weekend. In 12 games against Kansas City this season, Sano is hitting a ridiculous .413 with 5 homers and 23 RBI.
The Twins have 22 games remaining in the regular season and they hold a one-game lead on the Angels for the second Wild Card in the American League.
