Mitch Garver has been placed on the 10-day injured list after suffering a high ankle sprain in Minnesota’s 4-3 win over the Angels on Tuesday night.
With Garver out, the Twins have recalled 2017 All-Star Miguel Sano from Triple-A Rochester. Sano played in 10 minor-league games as part of a rehab assignment working his way back from a heel laceration that forced him to miss all of spring training and all 41 games of the season so far.
In his 10 games split between Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A, Sano slashed .316/.364/.579 with two homers, four doubles and nine RBI.
If Sano can hit at the level he did when he went to the All-Star Game in 2017, the Twins shouldn’t miss Garver too much. That said, Garver’s bat has been red-hot, slashing .329/.418/.747 with nine homers and 19 RBI. He’s hitting a home run ever 8.8 at-bats, which ranks second in the majors among regular players, trailing only Gary Sanchez (8.4 at-bats) of the New York Yankees.
Sano is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s noon game against the Angels.
