The Twins overcame light snow but didn’t come close overcoming the Mets Friday night.
New York scored 10 runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 16-5 win at Target Field.
Vance Worley’s night was short-lived for the Twins. He allowed 9 runs (7 earned) on 7 hits and was pulled before he could get an out in the second inning.
Worley’s ERA for the season blossomed to a grotesque 10.50.
The Mets put up 5 runs in the first and 5 more in the second. The crushing blow came off the bat of John Buck, who hit a grand slam off of Pedro Hernandez. It was the first batter Hernandez faced after relieving Worley.
Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer led the Twins with two hits each.
Game two of the series is Saturday. Scott Diamond will make his season debut for Minnesota.
