Friday, Oct. 26 marks the anniversary of Kirby Puckett’s iconic performance in Game 6 of the 1991 World Series.
The Twins trailed the Braves three games to two and were in need of a hero. Puckett put on his cape, flew against the Metrodome’s outfield wall for one of the greatest leaping grabs in MLB history, and then put the Twins on his back with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning.
The fan who caught the ball is a man named Joe, and Twin Cities PBS recently talked to him about his unbelievable night.
Puckett went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI in the game, finishing a double shy of the cycle while also padding his stats with a stolen base.
The Twins went on to win Game 7 by a score of 1-0 in Jack Morris’ 10-inning shutout, which is arguably the greatest game ever pitched.
