Trevor Mbakwe hasn’t started a game for the Gophers since tearing his ACL last year in a non-conference tournament. That could change Saturday when the Gophers host Lafayette. Coach Tubby Smith says “there may be a change,” and if there is it will likely be Mbakwe replacing Elliot Eliason in the starting lineup.
Julian Welch started from time-to-time last season, but the senior has been coming off the bench this season. As 1500 ESPN’s Nate Sandell writes, Welch is “searching for stability” in his role.
Saturday’s game against Lafayette begins at 6:00 p.m. Its the final non-conference game of the season. The Big Ten portion of the schedule begins January 31st against Michigan State.
