The Twins continued to struggle at the plate in Fenway Park, but scratched out enough runs to hold off the Boston Red Sox 2-0, Wednesday night to salvage a split of their day-night doubleheader Wednesday.
But the bigger story of the night was pitching.
It was the best start of Trevor May’s young career. The Twins right-hander tossed seven shutout innings, while holding the Red Sox to two hits and striking out nine.

May struck out five straight hitters in one stretch and he finished the night by sending down the last 13 batters he faced.
The Twins didn’t exactly light Fenway afire with their bats, but did enough to generate the run support May needed. Minnesota scored both runs in the second inning as Chris Herrmann doubled off the “Green Monster” in left field to score Eddie Rosario.
Herrmann came around to score on a safety squeeze bunt that was perfectly executed by shortstop Danny Santana – giving the Twins their 2-0 lead.
Boston starter Rick Porcello (4-5) was tough as well. He gave up just two runs on five hits while striking out five.
Glen Perkins picked up his 20th save of the season by closing out the victory in the ninth.
The Twins will close the series with Boston Thursday with Tommy Milone (2-1) returning to the team to start.
