Headlining the 2018 inductees to the Golden Gophers athletics Hall of Fame is former standout running back Laurence Maroney and star basketball player Janel McCarville.
In all, nine former Gopher athletes will be inducted to the M Club Hall of Fame on Sep. 13 during a ceremony at TCF Bank Stadium.
The nine inductees:
– Heather Kampf (2006-09): NCAA track and field champion and two-time national runner-up.
– Damion Hahn (2001-04): two-time wrestling national champion as an individual and part of two national title teams.
– Laurence Maroney (2003-05): All-American running back and second in Gophers history with 3,933 yards and 32 touchdowns in just three seasons.
– Janel McCarville (2002-05): Named an NCAA First Team All-American twice and help lead the Gophers to the Final Four in 2004.
– Pam Dombeck (1983-86): held the career blocks record for 24 years as one of the all-time great volleyball players.
– James McLean (1998-00): NCAA champion golfer and two-time All-American.
– Chris Paulos (1976-78): a four-year letter winner in both field hockey and softball. She played on two College World Series teams and was inducted into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame in 1989.
– Jim Peterson (1943, 1947-49): NCAA champion gymnast and five-time All-American.
– Justin Smith (2001-04): Three-time All-American and part of the 2002 national championship golf team, the only one in Gopher history.
