MINNEAPOLIS – – Trayvon Robinson’s two-run single capped a four-run sixth-inning for the Seattle Mariners, who beat the Twins 5-4 Thursday at Target Field.
Josh Willingham hit a two-run homer — his 33rd of the year — in the eighth to get Minnesota within a run, but Seattle closer Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a scoreless ninth to get the save.
Left-hander Brian Duensing picked up the loss, as he dropped to 3-10 on the year.
Seattle starter Blake Beaven pitched seven strong innings limiting the Twins to just five hits to improve to 9-8.
The Twins next head to Kansas City and Chicago for a six-game road trip. At 53-78, they have to go 10-21 the rest of the way to avoid a 100-loss season.
After the game, Manager Ron Gardenhire announcedoutfielder Denard Span’s collar bone injury has landed him on the disabled list.
